Search Union County Court Docket

A Union County court docket is the working record of filings, settings, and outcomes maintained by the clerk for a particular court. A Union County docket search usually starts with the local online system for Circuit Court or General Sessions, then moves to the correct clerk when a document, certified copy, or confirmation is needed. Because Chancery, Juvenile, appellate, federal, and municipal matters follow separate paths, searching the Union County court docket successfully depends first on identifying the court that received the case.

Union County Docket Portal Choices

This is not a single name box. The Union County search offers separate fields for Court Type, Case Type, Last Name, First Name, Year Filed, and Case Number. Pick the wrong court and case type pairing, and a real case can come back blank.

Search field Best use Caution
Court Type Separate Circuit from General Sessions It does not cover every Union court
Case Type Separate civil from criminal The subject may not be obvious from a name
Party Name Find a case without its number Spelling and name changes affect matches
Year Filed Narrow a result set A hearing year can differ from the filing year
Case Number Target a known file Help text may request digits after the last hyphen

The official search form displays these choices before a query.

Court Dockets: What They Show

Think of a docket as an index and a timeline in one. It lists the parties, the court, each filing, hearing settings, orders, and the disposition. What it usually lacks is the paperwork itself. Pleadings and exhibits generally live in the clerk's file. They do not sit on the docket sheet.

Case Number The assigned identifier; local help may request its numeric portion after the last hyphen.
Case Style The caption naming the parties or matter.
Docket Entries Dated filings, orders, minutes, motions, or other activity.
Hearing Settings Status dates, motions, trials, arraignments, or other appearances.
Court and Judge The division and judicial assignment connected with an entry.
Disposition The recorded procedural result, which may differ by count.

An entry proves an order exists. It does not show you the order. The same goes for money: a fee assessed in a docket entry may not match the balance still owed today. For those answers, check the clerk-held file or ask the clerk directly.

Union County Docket Terms Explained

Setting
A scheduled hearing, trial, motion, status check, or arraignment.
Status docket
A calendar used to review readiness, deadlines, pending motions, or next steps.
Rule docket
A local docket associated with rule, show-cause, and compliance matters.
Execution docket
A record connected with enforcement or collection of a judgment.
Disposition
The outcome or procedural resolution entered for a case or charge.
Continuance
A court-approved date change; party agreement alone does not move a Union setting.

See a phrase you do not know? Copy it down word for word, along with its date and case number, before calling. Clerk staff can pull up the record and walk you through how to get copies. They will not interpret legal meaning. They also will not tell a party what to file. That line keeps them neutral.

Union County Courts and Their Dockets

Union County sits in Tennessee's Eighth Judicial District alongside Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, and Scott Counties. That district structure shapes when Criminal Court terms run. Where the records themselves sit depends on the local court and the type of case.

Union County Docket Record Doors

The Union County courthouse at 901 Main Street in Maynardville anchors it all. Inside, there is no single records counter. Suite 201 holds the Circuit Court Clerk. Suite 206 holds the Clerk and Master, and Suite 202 houses Juvenile Court and Youth Services. Suite listings can vary between official sources, so verify your destination before you drive over. The county's Circuit Court Clerk page shows the job runs deeper than filing papers. The clerk keeps dockets and minutes. The office also collects court costs and restitution, issues process, and coordinates jury service.

Before visiting: bring the court name, case number or style, approximate filing date, and exact document needed. Ask whether inspection, an ordinary copy, or a certified copy fits the task.

Court Dates and Settings in Union County

One calendar covers all the courtrooms. The shared Union County Court Rooms calendar labels its entries Chancery, Sessions, Circuit status, Criminal Court, Recovery Court, Juvenile Court, Child Support, Grand Jury, and Civil/Traffic Court. A label tells you the room is busy, not that your case appears or when it will be called.

Always check a setting against your notice and the docket itself. Local material sets Criminal trial days at 9:00 a.m., though priority rules control the order and no slot is guaranteed. Civil settings can come from a motion, a consultation, a court notice, or docket call. Want a continuance? It takes court approval and good cause.

Union County Docket Specialty Paths

Special calendar labels can send you down a different records path. Eighth District rules set aside two Fridays each month for Recovery Court. It is a programmatic criminal setting. Do not assume every participant or document shows up in the public index. Many do not. Juvenile Court is tighter still. County material lists that docket's work. Dependency, delinquency, custody, parentage, school attendance, and under-18 traffic cases all fall within it. Local rules guard confidential reports and close many hearings. A blank adult-index result may not mean much. The case may have taken a protected route. Need juvenile access? Call Youth Services at 865-992-3081. For Recovery Court, start with the criminal case number and the clerk. The shared calendar alone will not carry the full docket.

Docket Access Under Tennessee Law

Tennessee opens records through general public-records law plus court-specific access rules. Public access does not put every attachment online. Juvenile reports, sealed filings, and personal identifiers stay back. A targeted request to the right custodian beats a broad demand for everything tied to a name.

Key access rules

Tenn. Code Ann. § 10-7-503 addresses inspection and copies for Tennessee citizens, subject to exceptions.

Tenn. Code Ann. § 10-7-505 supplies an enforcement framework for access disputes.

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 governs access to court records and recognizes protected material.

Tennessee Rule of Civil Procedure 5B supplies an e-filing framework; it does not make Union's public search an upload portal.

Union County's public materials name no countywide public e-filing system. And a subscription-login area on a site is not proof that confidential documents are being sold to anyone.

Union County Docket Restricted Material

Several categories of Union County court records face limits. Juvenile reports and protected victim information may be closed, redacted, or handled separately. The same goes for sealed motions, medical or financial details, and personal identifiers. Adoption information and certain domestic or conservatorship material may face the same limits. Civil rules presume openness but permit sealing when the legal standard is met. Criminal inspection still answers to statute, rule, and court order.

A redacted copy is not a sealed record; the difference matters. Ask what form of access exists. Ask whether your request must reach a judge or a custodian. Knowing the case number unlocks nothing on its own.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

Barbara Williams, the Circuit Court Clerk, serves as the main contact for Circuit and General Sessions dockets. Local rules keep the files in the clerk's custody, allow you to examine them in the office, and permit copies at reasonable cost, though nothing leaves without authorization. Her fee page lists ordinary copies at 50 cents per page and certified copies at $5, subject to confirmation.

Do not confuse the County Clerk with the court clerk. That office handles vehicle titles, marriage licenses, and other county services. It is not the custodian of general court files.

Union County Appellate Docket Paths

When a Union County case gets appealed, the record leaves the local docket behind. The state's appellate system, Tennessee Public Case History, is where those court records live. It can even supply PDF filings for qualifying dates. One caution: its prior-business-day timing statement describes the appellate system. So don't assume the Union County trial portal follows the same clock.

Coverage has firm edges. The appellate portal holds records filed after September 1, 2006. PDF documents may be available for appellate filings made after August 26, 2013. Older orders have thinner online coverage. Those date lines are just coverage notes. They do not mean older trial files were destroyed. For the original local record, the trial clerk in Union County remains the place to ask. The appellate system only tracks what happened once review began.

Federal cases sit elsewhere entirely. They belong to the Eastern District of Tennessee. That system is searched through PACER or federal CM/ECF, never through a county docket form. A case number like 3:26-cv-00419 tells you it is federal. State civil and criminal appeals go to the proper Tennessee appellate court. Federal appeals land in the Sixth Circuit.

The Eastern District keeps clerk offices in Knoxville and Greeneville. PACER charges for pages and reports under its fee policy. The free RECAP archive sometimes holds copies of the same documents. RECAP is not complete, though, and it is never the official file. Bankruptcy runs through a separate federal court and system. A missing district-court result calls for a court-name check, not another county docket search.

Union County Docket Activity in Context

Statewide figures put Union County's criminal docket in perspective. The Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts counted 340 criminal counts filed in fiscal year 2024-25, against 321 counts disposed. Those are counts. They are not people, cases, or convictions. Among the filings, the report listed 92 drug counts, 52 probation-violation counts, and 39 government-administration counts.

340criminal counts filed, FY 2024-25
321criminal counts disposed, FY 2024-25

Chancery told a different story. Its filings included 67 probate and trust matters. There were 49 residential-parenting and child-support cases. Another 35 were divorces without minor children. That mix shows why the Clerk and Master matters so much in Union County. Still, statistics only set context. They can never tell you whether one particular case is pending.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Union County

Union County contains three incorporated municipalities, per the 2020 Census and the Tennessee municipal directory. Each city handles its own ordinance and traffic records. Those municipal dockets sit with the local recorder or court contact, not automatically in the Union County portal.

Maynardville Court Records

Population 2,456 · County seat; municipal traffic court meets the first Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

Plainview Court Records

Population 2,060 · Municipal records begin with the city recorder/court clerk.

Luttrell Court Records

Population 1,017 · Its charter establishes city court, but no public online docket was found.

Note: Union County has just three incorporated cities, so no fourth or fifth city name belongs on any list of its municipal courts.

When Union County Docket Search Fails

A dead-end docket search has many possible causes. You may have paired the wrong court with the wrong case type. The name could be spelled differently. The filing may fall outside the year you chose. The record might rest with Chancery, a municipal court, protected juvenile material, or an appellate or federal system instead. An empty result proves nothing about whether the case exists. It certainly is not evidence of a dismissal.

  1. Check the notice for the complete court name and case number.
  2. Try the proper Circuit or General Sessions pairing.
  3. Ask the Circuit Clerk or Clerk and Master to confirm the route.
  4. For a city citation use the municipal contact; for an appeal use Public Case History; for a federal filing use PACER.
  5. Request a certified disposition when an official outcome is required.

Start by asking what the question really is. If money is involved, figure out whether the amount is a court cost, fine, restitution, filing fee, or service charge. The clerk collects all of these. A docket entry showing an assessment does not reveal the current balance, nor does it prove a Department of Safety action has cleared. Traffic matters often mean calling both the issuing court and the state driver-record agency.

If a document is the goal, name the exact docket entry you need. Say whether an ordinary copy will do or a certified copy is required. Local rules keep originals in the clerk's custody and allow inspection at the office. Copies run 50 cents per page, with $5 for certification, per the local fee page. Before sending anything, have the office confirm the number of chargeable pages, the payment method, delivery options, and any redaction steps.

Don't assume the online index is complete through the current hour. The county-linked search, shared calendar, clerk-held files, and separate state appellate and federal tools still stand as the official setup, and no county announcement promises a universal portal or a guaranteed daily refresh. The originating clerk can tell you whether a filing has been processed and whether a hearing date still stands.

Give the clerk enough detail to find the right file fast. Copy identifiers exactly. Keep the notice or citation, and note which office you contacted. Those small habits pay off. If the first docket search path was wrong, they make the second try far more productive.

Map and Directions to the Union County Courthouse

Circuit and General Sessions docket files are kept in Suite 201 of the Union County Courthouse, where the Circuit Court Clerk's office sits. Chancery records for equity, domestic, and probate matters are kept separately with the Clerk and Master in Suite 206, and Juvenile Court/Youth Services uses Suite 202. Suite numbers vary between the county directory, the state roster, and older pages, so confirm the destination office by phone before making the trip to Maynardville.

The courthouse's ADA plan describes an automatic door, stabilized handrails, water fountains, and accessible parking, though not every feature is guaranteed available at every entrance. Call the clerk first if a case involves a disability accommodation or a suite that isn't listed the same way on every county page.
